Editorial and sourcing policy
Crypto inheritance combines irreversible transactions with legal and tax questions. Our standard is to separate what the code proves, what a source reports and what still needs professional advice.
Purpose and scope
Will & Key publishes educational material about self-custody, wallet security, digital estate planning and smart-contract inheritance. Content is written for people who already hold or may inherit crypto. It is not individualized legal, tax, financial or investment advice.
Sources
We prefer primary sources: deployed contract state, source code, transaction records, official network and wallet documentation, statutes, regulators, tax authorities and direct provider policies. Secondary sources may provide context but should not be the sole support for a material legal, security or financial claim. Statistics must identify their source and date; unsupported numbers are removed or qualified.
First-hand technical evidence
Claims about Will & Key's own contract should be reproducible. We link deployed addresses, publish source and tests, record compiler settings and distinguish an exact bytecode comparison from source verification by an explorer. Test results demonstrate covered behavior, not an absence of undiscovered defects.
Authorship and review
Current guides are published by the Will & Key project team. The team has first-hand knowledge of the source, tests, deployment and interface, but is not presented as a law firm, tax practice or independent auditor. A page is not labelled “legally reviewed,” “audited” or “expert reviewed” unless a named, qualified and independent reviewer has actually completed that work. Current reviewer status is maintained on the authors and reviewers page.
Automation
Software-assisted research, drafting and testing may be used, but publication remains the project's responsibility. We do not publish large batches of lightly differentiated pages or change dates merely to imply freshness. Material claims must be checked against the cited source or reproducible project evidence.
Corrections and updates
Pages show a publication or review date. A date changes only when the content has been substantively checked or revised. Corrections should preserve the substance of any material risk disclosure. To report an error without publishing exploit details, follow the process on the security page or request a private channel through the repository.
Commercial separation
Will & Key describes its own software and therefore has an obvious interest in the subject. Comparisons must state meaningful disadvantages and alternatives. Paid placements, affiliate relationships or sponsored conclusions are not currently part of the guides; if that changes, the relationship must be disclosed on the affected page.
